Year 2001 has been a difficult year ... a year of great sadness and one that has changed our lives, as we knew it, forever.  But it has also been a triumphant year ... a year of brother helping brother, city helping city, country helping country, rising to the occasion of great unity.  In celebration, let's welcome New Year 2002 with the promise of hope, freedom, peace, prosperity and most of all ... a faith in good over evil that will not, cannot, be shaken.

From our family to yours, our blessings to you for a year filled with love, good health, laughter and dreams come true!  Joseph and Sunny

SAILING INTO THE NEW YEAR

God built and launched this year for you;
Upon the bridge you stand;
It's your ship, aye, your own ship,
And you are in command.
Just what the twelve months' trip will do
Rests wholly, solely, friend, with you.

Your log book kept from day to day
My friend, what will it show?
Have you on your appointed way
Made progress, yes or no?
The log will tell, like a guiding star,
The sort of captain that you are.

For weal or woe this year is yours;
Your ship is on life's sea
Your acts, as captain, must decide
Whichever it shall be;
So now in starting on your trip,
Ask God to help you sail your ship.

Dear Lord, as I close the door on this old year,
I ponder on the things I've done ...
on the things I've said and the joys I've had ...
then I wonder, have I lost or won?

I've thought of the new friends I have made,
and of the old ones staunch and true ...
the path of the old year was made easier Lord,
because I have walked it with You.

I think of all the many times,
when my burdens were so heavy to bear,
and how my faith slipped away from me ...
but somehow You were always standing there.

Now as I open the door to this New Year,
and carefully peep inside,
I wonder what it holds for me ...
but I'll throw the door open wide

And whatever it brings to me and mine,
I'll meet it with a heart so true ...
I know that, Lord whate'er it may be
You'll be there to carry me through.

Benediction For The New Year 2002

May you wake up on January 1st, finding that the world has not come to an end, the lights work, the water faucets flow, and the sky has not fallen.

May we relax about the Third Millennium of the Common Era, and realize that we still have 238 years until the dawn of the Sixth Millennium of the Jewish Calendar by which time the computer is long since obsolete and so are we.

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-enterologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber and the IRS.

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May you find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in less than an hour, and when you get there may you find a parking space.

May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them.

May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.

May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, and may your check book and your budget balance, and may they include generous amounts for charity.

May you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis instructor.

And may we live in a world at peace and the awareness of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.

Time

Though even thinking on the subject of time may prove discomforting, it is not a bad idea, especially at the beginning of a new year.

As we look into 2002 we look at a block of time.  We see 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, 31,536,000 seconds.  And all is a gift from God.  We have done nothing to deserve it, earn it, or purchased it.  Like the air we breathe, time comes to us as a part of life.

The gift of time is not ours alone.  It is given equally to each person.  Rich and poor, educated and ignorant, strong and weak, every man, woman and child has the same twenty-four hours every day.

Another important thing about time is that you cannot stop it.  There is no way to slow it down, turn it off, or adjust it.  Time marches on.

And you cannot bring back time.  Once it is gone, it is gone.  Yesterday is lost forever.  If yesterday is lost, tomorrow is uncertain.  We may look ahead at a full year's block of time, but we really have no guarantee that we will experience any of it.

Obviously, time is one of our most precious possessions.  We can waste it.  We can worry over it.  We can spend it on ourselves.  Or, as good stewards, we can invest it in the kingdom of God.

The new year is full of time.  As the seconds tick away, will you be tossing time out the window, or will you make every minute count?

HOW TO LIVE IN THE NEW YEAR

Life is a journey; I will live it trustingly: "though I
walk through the valley of the shadow ... I will
fear no evil: for thou art with me"
(Psalm 23:4)

Life is a task; I will live it obediently: "we keep
his commandments, and do those things that
are pleasing in his sight"
(1 John 3:22)

Life is a mission; I will live it helpfully: "Be ye
kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another"
(Ephesians 4:32)

Life is a contest; I will live it earnestly: "Watch
ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."
(1 Corinthians 16:13)

Life is a battle: I will live it courageously: "Be
strong and of good courage; be not afraid; for the
Lord thy God is with thee"
(Joshua 1:9)
A New Year!  A New Day!  A New Life!

Not only on New Year's
but all the year through

God gives us a chance to begin life anew;
For each day at dawning we have but to pray
That all the mistakes that we made yesterday
Will be blotted out and forgiven by grace,

For God in his love will completely efface
All that is past and He'll grant a new start
To all who are truly repentant at heart

It doesn't take a new year
to begin our lives anew...
God grants us new beginnings
each day the whole year through

So never be discouraged
for there comes daily to all men
The chance to make another start
and begin all over again
