~~~OZZIE ~~~ 1986 - September 4, 2000
UNFORGETTABLE ~ by Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole
Unforgettable, though near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before ...
Has someone been more ...
Unforgettable in every way
And forevermore, that's how you'll stay
That's how you'll stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that i am unforgettable too.
Not ever before ...
Has someone been more ...
Unforgettable (unforgettable)
In every way (in every way)
And forevermore (and forevermore)
That's how you'll stay (that's how you'll stay)
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that i am unforgettable, too.
This page is dedicated with deepest understanding to humans everywhere who have ever loved a dog with all their heart ... And we know their dog had to have loved them twice as much in return.
When we gave our love to our dog, Ozzie, we knew that one day he would leave us ... but, no matter how many years we spent together, we were never prepared for the void that would take over our lives when he was gone. Even after weeks pass and grief should seem to ease, or at least had been hidden behind the demands of trying to live our lives, the memory of our beloved pet would come to our minds unbidden and the tears would flow as easily and as abundantly as they did before.  We, as his family, his  cherished friend and companion, are never the same.
I believe the dogs which come to share our lives for awhile are nothing less than angels, sent to us so we might learn our own value and worth through the eyes of a totally unbiased being.
Ozzie did not notice the colour of our skin, nor did he care whether we were rich or poor.  He could care less about our political feelings, our religious choices or our place on the ladder of success. No matter what, he would stand loyally and faithfully beside us, loving us with an undying and perfect love ... unconditionally.
It is no wonder we miss our beautiful pets when they are called to the place where little dog angels go when they become weary.  Within the enfolding warmth of their unconditional love and unswerving loyalty, they have helped us become a better person.  When our cherished canine friends die, they take with them a part of our soul ... and our lives are changed forever ...
We love and miss you so terribly much, Ozzie ... We will joyfully see you again ... someday ...
~ A DOG'S PRAYER ~
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice as the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory that the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you though ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my God and I am your worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should no reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell when I suffer from thirst.  Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and to stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in you arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest--- and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever in your hand.
~ FROM THE OTHER SIDE ~
I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly
as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today,
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you,
that I'm not lying there.
